Margarita is an associate in the tax consulting practice. She specializes in providing advice to individuals and corporations in their operations executed in Mexico and abroad in tax matters including estate planning, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), corporate restructures and real estate projects, tax due diligence, tax diagnoses, and assistance in tax compliance, including the application of tax treaties for the avoidance of double taxation and the Multilateral Instrument (MLI).
Likewise, she has experience assisting in procedures carried out before the Federal Taxpayers Registry, tax refund requests, criterion ratifications requests, as well as advising authorized donees and non-profit legal entities.
In previous years, Margarita collaborated in the tax litigation practice of different law firms, therefore her experience also includes assisting throughout auditing procedures carried out by the Mexican Tax Authorities, filing and follow-up of conclusive agreement requests before the Mexican Taxpayers’ Ombudsman (PRODECON), as well as drafting and filing means of defense before the Mexican Tax Authorities, the Federal Administrative Justice Court, and the Federal Judicial Branch.
Margarita has a Law Degree from the Universidad Panamericana (2017), where she is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Tax Law.
In addition, she has Diplomas issued by the University of New York (NYU), the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM), the Centro de Estudios Fiscales (CEFA) and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). She is also an active member of the Mexican Business Lawyers Association (ANADE).
Before joining SMPS Legal, Margarita collaborated in the tax consulting practice in Arias y Meurinne, S.C., and Natera Consultores, S.C., and the tax litigation practice in Ernst & Young (Mancera, S.C.), and Chevez, Ruíz, Zamarripa, S.C.
